When I get asked the question “what does a graphic designer do?” my easy response is “I make things engaging.” What people don’t generally realize is that “making things engaging" is a way for me to say that I am solving a puzzle. I am actually meticulously adjusting the kerning between two letters in InDesign. I am searching for the perfect color combination to evoke the correct energy of the piece. I am editing the levels of a photo in Photoshop. I am adjusting one point of the Bézier curve of a logo in Illustrator. I am organizing the material in a way that makes sense to the eye by creating a hierarchy of information. I am striving to create a piece that exceeds the expectations of the client and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. All the while working to create a clean, smart and effective piece that will make the target audience not even notice that a person had a hand in creating the response they are feeling towards the piece.
